Who we are
Having been set up in 2005 by Sarah Savage and Penny Tyson it wasn’t long before they started manufacturing their award winning Conserves and Marmalades in Pennys kitchen and started supplying Waitrose under the locally produced scheme along with many delis and various other outlets across Norfolk. In 2007 the duo went their separate ways with Sarah carrying on Essence and moving to new premises in a converted barn at East Lexham. From here the business continued to grow. It wasn’t uncommon for rare sightings of Sarah’s eldest son to be seen not doing very much in the kitchen on Saturday mornings. A few years later the business moved again to bigger premises. This time over to Salle we went, where you will still find us today. With it’s fantastic purpose built kitchens Essence was able to continue it’s fine form and carried on winning local, national and international awards for it’s handcrafted Conserves and Marmalades. Essence has and always will carry on pushing forward in the fiercely competitive world of Conserves and Marmalade, with many exciting years yet to come.
Why we do what we do
Because we live for food! Essence was created to offer proper quality high fruit, low sugar Conserves and Marmalades that are crafted using time honoured techniques which have the beautiful flavours of fruit paired up with naturally delicious herbs and botanicals. In this search for heaven you will not find any additives, preservatives or cost cheapening fruit juices anywhere near our range. Quite simply food doesn’t need them. Therefore you will only find whole fruits in our jars. We live and die by the quality of the products that come out of our kitchens which is why everything is handmade by people who love and enjoy the work that they do. We are good at recipes and there is no greater recipe than that when it comes to food.
Essence Re-brand
2020 is the year for unexpected creations (some good, some pandemic) and this includes Essence. With the same front label for 15 years we decided it was time to give Essence a slight spruce. That is why this year we have re-branded Essence to better show what our ethos is every time you tuck into a jar, making sure that everything about Essence is naturally delicious.
So welcome Essence Botanicals! We’ve increased the jar size, increased the colour, whilst still keeping the same great flavour. Having loved working with William Falch-Lovesy, a local designer and artist, on the Montys brand we couldn’t wait to see what we could create for Essence. We’ve kept the happy Gerbera on the lid but thrown in a few hand draw Fruit and Botanicals for good measure.So look out for these fantastically vibrant labels where ever you go. Vibrant in Colour!
