Mustard and Sausages, Yes Please!
We had very recently been asked to speak at a Mustard and Sausage evening being coordinated and hosted by the Lansdowne club in Mayfair. With an incredibly rich history and a certainly unfaltering future we were honored by this invitation and gleefully accepted. After several weeks of preparation we finally arrived and entered the immaculate foyer and were dutifully ushered through the beautifully decorated corridors to the Sherbourne room that was to be our stage for the several hours to come. With a room full of eagerly awaiting Lansdowne club members we were greeted with a warm reception and hastily embarked on what would be an unforgettable evening, involving sausages tastings with mustard pairings and plenty of prosecco to fill everyone’s boots with.

James Rutland of Rutland Butchers kicked the evening off with a brief history of their 47 year old butchers and about the quality of the meat that they proudly use. Following on we explained who we are, what Montys is and why we do what we do. Once we had both stopped rambling, the first of the 6 different varieties of sausage came out and the mustards were recommended. The order of play was as follow:
Norfolk Sauasage – Taveners or Musketeers Mustard
Stilton and Pickle Sausage – English or Wholegrain Mustard
Venison, Mushroom and Shallot Sausage – Horseradish or English Mustard
Honey Glazed Gammon Sausage – Wholegrain or Honey and Cinnamon Mustard
Wild Boar and Juniper Sausage – 12 Days of Christmas or Black Beauty Mustard
Rustic Italiano Sausage – Spiced with Cumin or Musketeers Mustard
Once everyone had polished off the last of the Rustic Italiano, the room settled into soft discussion on which was everyone’s favourite. Unfortunately no amount of wine was able to solve this discussion and instead everybody relaxed into a happy calm as they said goodbye to new friends and old ones. It really was a fantastic evening and the greatest of thanks must go to the Lansdowne Club and Zara Desai for organising it. James for bringing his delicious Sausages and of course the wonderful members and guests who made an unfamiliar setting feel incredibley comfortable.
